The 13th Australia and New Zealand Leadership Forum was held in Auckland on 12-13 September 2019.
That Forum focussed on exploring 15 years of the Single Market Economy and what comes next.
The day started with the five ANZLF Sector Groups presenting their recommendations, followed by five panel discussions on key trans-Tasman challenges and opportunities, as well as addresses by the Opposition Leaders of both countries and a breakout session on trans-Tasman business and the Single Economic Market (SEM) hosted by McKinsey & Company.
The Tourism, Innovation and Health Technology Sector Groups, as well as the Emerging Leaders group, all identified data sharing and privacy issues as barriers to innovation. As such, our top recommendation for the 2019 Forum was for governments to work together to remove barriers to the trans-Tasman sharing of data between government agencies and with the private sector.
Since that Forum the ANZLF has been focussed on pursuing the recommendations that require business to business action along with working with both the Australian and New Zealand governments on those issues requiring action at the business to government or government to government level. Work is also underway to develop new recommendations for tabling at the next ANZLF meeting, likely to be in 2022 due to the difficulty of face to face meetings during the COVID19 pandemic.
